In a discussion at Facebook's town hall at Menlo Park, Narendra Modi speaks about his dream that he wants to connect more then 6,00,000 villages of India with the High Speed internet. If Narendra Modi this dream will full filled then it will be the most enterprising step taken for the country's democracy. Because this will expand India's economy from $2 Trillion to $20 Trillion.
This is the third time that Facebook is doing effort for the Indians to connect the whole India with the fast speed internet.
In February 2015, Facebook launched internet.org with shaking hands with the Reliance Communications. The ambition of that project was to connect the whole India with the High speed internet by truncated versions of few partner sites. This idea was known as " Walled Garden". Unfortunately this project was flopped. Because at that time many of supports of net neutrality was against this project.
But Facebook and Narendra Modi does not give up the hope and they tried again and now finally they have started struggle again to develop a "Digital India".
“Connecting India is an important goal we won't give up on, because more than a billion people in India don't have access to the internet. We know that connecting them can help lift people out of poverty, create millions of jobs and spread education opportunities. We care about these people, and that's why we're so committed to connecting them.” Said by Mark Zuckerberg in a blog post.
Facebook is now started testing WiFi Hotspost in different areas of India including cities, villages and small towns etc.
According to Facebook's launched website internet.org it has been confirmed that "Express WiFi" is live in India now. And they are working with the Internet service providers, careers and local entrepreneurs to expand this around the whole India.
As mentioned above in last year Facebook launched a Free Internet Access project in India which was flopped, so is this project is different from the previous one?.
As Facebook spokesperson said in an email that “Currently, we are working with ISP and operator partners to test Express Wi-Fi with public Wi-Fi deployments in multiple pilot sites. This solution empowers ISPs, operators, and local entrepreneur retailers to offer quality internet access to their village, town or region.”
This is still not confirmed that the company will provide full free access of Internet to Indians or they will provide free access to some specific sources.
The current progress of India indicates that India will soon convert into "Digital India". Because Facebook is not the only one who helping India to become digital India.
Google is also working with Indian Government to provide high speed internet across the 400 Railways stations of India.
Currently Tech Gaint is working with Indian Railways and RailTel and covered 100 stations of India with High speed internet coverage. And the other remaining 300 Railway stations will also be covered soon.
